Your social media calendar should be easy to read and contain all the necessary information for your content. Depending on what type of business you are, and whether you are managing your own business’ social media or several businesses, you need to decide the best way to organise your ‘spreadsheet.’ As we look after different companies’ social media we organise ours by tabs, however, if you are looking after your own, you can sort the tabs by month, it all depends on what’s easiest for you to read and understand.
Why Do We Use a Content Calendar
Because we manage several companies’ social media it can sometimes get overwhelming and it’s easy to forget whose social media you’ve posted on and whose you haven’t. By creating a calendar, we can tick off on the day which social media we’ve posted on. As we create blog/newsletter content for some businesses as well, it allows users to see what posts we’ve previously done and when another one should be posted. Another way we like to use our content calendar is looking up national days which work well with certain businesses.
For example, we manage the social media for Love Pleasure, an online adult retailer, and with March being ‘National Bed Month’ we can theme posts around it, giving us more content. We also like to include important events, as one of our clients is a watch retailer knowing when the daylight saving hours’ change can make for a good social media post.
